Army dedicates road to heroes of Boko Haram war

Army dedicates road to heroes of Boko Haram war The Nigerian Army has dedicated a newly reconstructed road into its base in Maiduguri to soldiers serving in the theatre of counter-Boko Haram military operation, in Borno State.

Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen. Tukur Buratai, said the two-kilometre road leading to the Maimalari Cantonement of the 7 Division, which also accommodates the headquarters of Operation Lafiya Dole, was rehabilitated to give officers and soldiers access to their homes when returning from the battle fields.

“This road is very strategic in the theatre of operation against Boko Haram terrorists. Unfortunately, it has been in very bad shape for a long time, and we thought we should overhaul it completely,” the army chief, represented by the Theatre Commander, Maj Gen Abba Dikko, said.

He said the road constitutes the first phase of rehabilitation of infrastructure at the barrack, to ease the challenges being experienced by soldiers and officers in the theatre.

“The sick, the wounded or departed must be given a befitting access to good health care and farewell to the departed one, because the road has been in deplorable state, due to harsh weather and long use,” he said.
